My brother Dale Robbins and I just completed a big bucket list item! A 5-day, 4-night horseback pack trip in the backcountry. Tom Cat Watson, his brother Backer, and Backer’s wife Desirae, took us deep into Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. We rode about 54 miles total on backcountry horse trails, hiked a little more, and were privileged to see waterfalls, cliffs, rock features, and old cabins that few visitors ever get to see.
And the horses!! Other than a Tennessee walker I rode a few times many years ago, I’ve never ridden a gaited horse before. Beautiful animals and once I learned how to get a gaited horse “in gear”, the ride was so smooth I felt like I was in the front seat of a Cadillac! I couldn’t stop smiling!
